Saywite Archaeological – Excursions Abancay

Apurimac

An archaeological site in which the Saywite Monolith or main monolith, 2.5 metres tall with marks representing the regional geography and environment, stands out. Within the complex (2,400 masl), a series of nine fountains can be found, as well as a series of lesser monoliths associated with another set of fountains. There is also an altar with an 18 by 34 metre rectangular platform linked to the worship of the sun and astronomical observation. The Intihuanta, a stone block with differently-shaped carvings, is also a highlight.
